Ex-LMS 4-6-2 No 46256 'Sir William Stanier' approaches Rugby station on a down express service in the early 1960s. The penultimate member of the Coronation class No 46256 was built at Crewe works in December 1947 to an Ivatt modified design and remained in service until withdrawn in October 1964 from Crewe North shed for scrapping in January 1965 by J Cashmore of Great Bridge. The last two Coronation Pacifics were built with roller bearings and modified trailing truck under the cab. The main visible difference was the cab side sheets being short and straight across the bottom. The absence of the curved footplate in front of the cylinders was a common feature with the de-streamlined locomotives.
