LNWR 4-4-0 Precursor Class No 127 'Snake' on an up Holyhead express near Clifton Road Junction circa 1823

LNWR 4-4-0 Precursor Class No 127 'Snake' on the up Northampton line with an up express from Holyhead near Clifton Road Junction circa 1923. Richard Foster of the LNWR Society writes, 'The GCR bridge is in the background and the line to the right of the engine is the up Northampton goods which terminated at Hillmorton. The down Northampton and up Stamford lines are at a higher level off to the left of the picture'. Mike Williams also a member of the LNWR Society adds, I think the train has 7 x 57ft carriages, 3 x bogie vans, the open carriage truck and the 6-wheeler. The seventh is a covered scenery truck, which seems a bit odd in the middle of a passenger formation. The open carriage truck was one of those normally reserved for Holyhead traffic with luggage in support of the American Express trains. The 25ft 6-wheeled van is in very late livery with large white LNWR on the side - I can't think of another picture of these in that livery.
