Close up of image 'lnwrrm2545' looking towards the buffers of Bays 5 and 6 which served local passenger services to Leamington, Birmingham via Coventry, and Stafford via the Trent Valley Line. As indicated by the second sign suspended from the roof, the Midland Railway also operated services from this end of the station, using the bay platforms of 3 and 4 for services to Leicester. In between the tracks of bays 5 and 6 is a ground signal which would be used to release the locomotive via the crossover from platform 5 to platform 6 in order to attach itself at the other end of the train. Bob Essery believes that the crossover was added sometime between 1905 and 1910 as a map at two-chains to the mile scale dated 1905 did not show the crossover but a diagram of the station which he dates as circa 1910 (seen in image 'lnwrrm2537') does show the crossover.
