A porte-cochère or carriage porch is a porch- or portico-like structure erected at a main or secondary entrance to a building through which a horse and carriage (or motor vehicle) can pass in order for the occupants to alight under cover, protected from the weather. In this instance, three of the canopy sections had been erected at the second station (see image 'lnwrrm3305', the other two sections required to make the porte cochère longer were exact copies.
