Close up of image 'lnwrns1705' showing ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire 0-6-0 3F No 52465 and ex-LMS 2P 4-4-0 No 40677 are seen standing on the coaling line after being serviced ready for their next turn in the summer of 1953. The disposal of locomotives were the responsibility of a dedicated team of locomotive crews and not the crews that worked the engine out on the main line. The relief crew would take over the engine on its return to the shed and then remove the ash in the smokebox and the firebox and then move the locomotive to the coaling plant to fill up the tender with coal and water. Aspinall 0-6-0 No 52465 was built as L&Y No 1600 at Horwich works in September 1918 and later renumbered No 12465 by the LMS and as No 52465 remained in service until July 1955 when it was withdrawn from Nuneaton shed to be scrapped at Horwich works. Fowler 4-4-0 No 40677 was built at Derby works in February 1932 and remained in service until November 1959 when it was stored at Rugby until it was scrapped in April 1962 by J Cashmore of Great Bridge.
