Ex-LMS 4-6-0 Patriot class No 45539 'EC Trench' is seen at the head of a down class C freight made up of XP rolling stock including the six-wheel West Coast Joint Stock van behind the tender. Notionally rebuilt from a LNWR Claughton at Crewe works in July 1933, No 45539 remained in service until October 1961 when it was withdrawn from Newton Heath shed in Manchester to be scrapped in October 1961 at Crewe works.
