Ex-St Helens Railway 2-4-0 No 1818 stands at the West end of Monument Lane shed circa 1877. Built as St Helens Railway No 21 'Raven' (known as 'White Raven' as it was originally painted white), No 1818 was built in November 1863 as a 2-4-2 radial tank engine, 15 inch x 20 inch inside cylinders, 5 foot 1 inch diameter driving wheels. It was renumbered LNWR No 1387 in August 1864, No 1226 in December 1867, No 1818 in December 1871 (as seen above), and finally as LNWR No 3040 in November 1986.
