A very clean ex-LNWR 0-6-2T 'Coal Tank' locomotive No 58903 stands in front of Monument Lane Shed in 1954. The centenary of New Street station was being celebrated in 1954 and as part of the celebrations two rail tours had been arranged on 1st and 2nd June 1954. The locomotive had been 'bulled up' to provide the locomotive power for these two tours which was to be its swansong because having being built as LNWR No 966 at Crewe works in January 1885 No 58903 was withdrawn in the same month. As part of the celebrations other locomotives were put on display at New Street see 'lnwrbns_br1798'. Photograph R Butterfield courtesy of Initial Photographics
