A 1929 view of the 'Dutch' barn erected in Donald Powell's newly opened timber yard located in Cope Street with Monument Lane carriage shed on the left out of the picture. The barn was used for storage whilst the timber yard could also boast that it had two main timber sheds and a machine shop/saw mill. The timber merchants siding was accessed via the approach sidings to the carriage shed and could officially only accommodate twelve wagons. A consignment of twelve wagons would take the yard's nine 'stackers' upto four days to unload. Failure to unload the wagons within the four day period would initiate penalty charges, known as demurage. Wagons were brought into the yard by one of the early morning Wolverhampton to Monument Lane pick-up goods.
