Close up of image 'lnwrmart1331' showing Marton station and the pleasing design adopted by the LNWR when building such a rural and unimportant station. The station was built in two parts, the original being used for the single line station and was symmetrical being formed by a single storey building either side of the two storey station master's house. The single storey structure nearest the camera was opened when the line was doubled in 1884 and accommodated the booking office. The The station was lit by oil lamps the whole of its working life and these were positioned inside cabinets either fixed to the wall as seen above or on top of a post. They were open on three sides with the rear panel being solid and fitted with a convex mirror to dissipate the light in a 180° arc.
