British Railways built 3MT 2-6-2T No 41214 arrives at the station on a Nuneaton to Coventry service during September 1958. This Ivatt designed locomotive, fitted with 'Push-Pull' equipment, was built at Crewe works in September 1948 and remained in service until July 1965 when it was withdrawn from 83G Templecombe shed to be scrapped by G Cohen of Morriston in Swansea. When operating in push–pull mode, the train can be driven from either the locomotive or the cab based in the end coach. The use of a bell code or another form of signalling system was used to communicate with the fireman located in the locomotive in order to pass on commands to adjust controls not available in the cab. If the train is heading in the direction in which the locomotive end of the train is facing (as seen above), this is considered 'pulling'. If the train is heading in the opposite direction, this is considered 'pushing' and the motorman or engine driver is located in the alternative cab. This configuration means that the locomotive never needs to be uncoupled from the train and ensures fast turnaround times at a railway station terminus. See 'lnwroffch1451' for a train being driven in 'push' mode.
