Close up of image 'lnwrf2075' showing mainly coal wagons standing in Foleshill goods yard with the Station Hotel and Lockhurst Lane in the background on 24th June 1961. The wagons have been organised within the goods yard, empties have been stabled on the left whilst full wagons are on the right. Foleshill at one time had twenty coal merchants registered to use Foleshill goods yard and therefore the limited number of visible coal stacks is a little surprising as coal merchants had only a few days within which they had to empty the wagon before incurring charges. The piles of coal on the ground by the wagons would indicate that the local coal merchants frequently off loaded the wagons directly on to their lorries, weighing the coal into one hundred weight bags, to be delivered to local homes and businesses. On the left a fixed manually operated crane can be seen which would be used to off load timber and other heavy goods whilst the loading gauge would ensure that any load leaving the yard in an uncovered wagon did not foul lineside structures. On Lockhurst Lane is one of Coventry Corporation's many Daimler buses painted in a livery not too dissimilar to the LMS' Crimson and Cream livery.
