Drawing of the covered landing provided at the Curzon Street Canal Wharf for the London & Birmingham Railway

Drawing of the covered landing provided at the Curzon Street Canal Wharf for the London & Birmingham Railway. In addition to goods being transhipped to and from Top Yard the L & B used the facilities to ship coke to supply their locomotives. The coke was loaded into into tubs and taken directly to the cellars located beneath the Engine House that were used to store the coke. As the covered landing was just 70 feet long, the length of a narrow boat, it was clear that the L& B underestimated the volume of traffic that would be transhipped between the railway and the canal.
