View of the original bridge which carried Earlsdon Lane over the London and Birmingham Railway in 1837

View of the original bridge which carried Earlsdon Lane over the London and Birmingham Railway in 1837. It would appear that the railway is very near to completion as the track appears to be permanent way and not temporary or contractors trackwork. The navvy in the foreground appears to be dressing the embankment whilst the navvies in the cutting appear to be carrying out a final inspection of the track. This engraving was brought to my attention by Geoff Barwick who had identified that the image 'lnwrcov578' is problematic. Geoff wrote, 'The second bridge in your picture is a figment of the artist's imagination (as is the 'cutting' for the road). The lie of the land is such that there is an embankment in that area.'
