Close up showing the loco coal wagons being placed on the coal bank beneath Coventry's coaling shelter

Close up of image 'lnwrcov1582' showing the loco coal wagons being placed on the coal bank beneath Coventry's coaling shelter. As can be seen the road has been elevated and is level for the portion running from the coaling shelter to the buffers. The difference in height was designed to facilitate the loading of coal into the bunkers and tenders of locomotives which would be stabled on the road seen on the left. This road continued through to the shed's turntable where the locomotive could be turned and exit the area via another road which was to the left of this second road. The coal bank road ended at a buffer stop made up of sand placed in a box formed by walls of sleepers.
