Ex-LMS 8P 4-6-2 No 46245 'City of London' heads a down
express service made up of mainly Mark I coaching stock to New Street on 9th
August 1963. John, the photographer, writes 'The locomotive No 46245, has a
Camden 1B shed plate on the smokebox. Just four weeks later it was allocated to
Willesden.'. The Coronation Scot Class locomotive had been built by Crewe works
in streamlined form in June 1943 and after the removal of the streamlining post
war remained in service until October 1964 when it was withdrawn from 5A Crewe
North shed to be scrapped by Cashmore's of Great Bridge.
