A view looking towards Coventry showing Chilvers Coton station some six months after the withdrawal of passenger services. By the 13th June 1965 when this photograph was taken all station signage had been removed as is indicated by the absence of the 'Running In' (station name) board on the left. Its a big difference from just three decades earlier when passenger numbers were very high and the prospects for the station were very good. Peter Lee writes in his book 'Nuneaton, Coventry & Leamington Railway' that the number of tickets being sold to commuters to Coventry exceeded nine hundred per day in the 1930s. He also states that trains ran every ten minutes and, reflecting the proliferation of pedal power in the working man's family, bikes could be parked for 6d per day (2½ New Pence) with nearby cottages offering bicycle storage facilities too.
