External view of the enlarged Queens Hotel which fronted New Street with the hotel entrance now signposted on the small canopy seen to the right. In 1915 the hotel was enlarged by the construction of a new wing replacing the single-storey extension together with the garages and stonemason's yard that existed alongside the hotel on the corner of Stephenson and Navigation Streets. The hotel was further enlarged in the 1920s by the addition of a two further floors forming a fifth and sixth floor. People arriving by road transport via New Street would have to proceed down Stephenson Place to Stephenson Street, which ran parallel to the hotel, to gain access to the station. The sign fixed on the left hand corner column of the hotel which was extended between 1911 and 1917 reads 'Drive Carefully'.
