Looking from the Queens Hotel across to Platform 3's building showing a mixture of six-wheel coaching stock at the platform

Looking from the Queens Hotel across to Platform 3's building showing a mixture of six-wheel coaching stock at the platform circa 1901. The date for the above photograph has been given as circa 1870 on the NRM/SSPL websites. This has been challenged as being inaccuarate for a number of reasons.

Murray Bartlett of the LNWR Society writes, 'From 30ft 1'' carriages Philip Millard. The carriages were designed by CA Park and placed in service from 1887. The D419 Parcel sorting vans were authorised in June 1889 with 5 built in 1890 so the earliest possible date for the photo is after 1890 also all the carriages pictured have gas lamps so the date of 1901 could be accurate. If a carriage number can be read a definite date is possible'. Sandy Croall adds, 'the earliest date for the Dia, 419 Parcel Van with side Corridor connection in the centre, would be 1890-91 (Corridor Connections altered to the centre of the ends circa 1901)'. John Gowers writes, 'The photograph appears in "North Western Album" by CC Dorman. The date given is 1901 and the photo is credited to L&GPR 5402'.
