Midland Railway 1P 2-4-0 No 195 on pilot duties stands alongside the up face of Platform 5 adjacent to No2 Signal Cabin at the East end of the station

Midland Railway 1P 2-4-0 No 195 on pilot duties stands alongside the up face of Platform 5 adjacent to No2 Signal Cabin at the East end of the station on 25th August 1933. Built at Derby works in 1876 No 195 remained in service until February 1934 when it was withdrawn from Saltley shed to be scrapped soon afterwards by Derby works. Note the letter 'S' for 'shunt ahead' on the subsidiary signal arm on the signal bracket. The two minature (disc) signals seen on the footboarding under the bridge controlled the exit from the short 'Parlour Siding' which was located between the two faces of Platform 5 and in front of Signal Box No 2 as seen image 'lnwrbns_str1841a'.
