Ex-LMS 8F 2-8-0 No 48172 is seen standing at platform 3 with train reporting codes indicating its at the head of an up Type 4 working. In 1962 the British Railways Type 4 code covered 'Express freight train pipe fitted throughout with the automatic brake operative on NOT less than 90% of the vehicles. Maximum speed 55 mph. A maximum speed of 60 mph will apply in respect of certain trains specifically indicated in the Working Timetable'. Built as LMS No 8172 by Crewe works in June 1943, No 48172 was to remain in service until May 1964 when it was officially withdrawn from 82F Bath Green Park shed having been transferred there from 85C Barnwood shed in Gloucester to be stored prior to sale.
