LMS Route: Rugby to Leamington Spa (Avenue)
Birdingbury Station: lnwrbird3965
British Railways built 2MT 2-6-2T No 41228, with a Push-Pull
train, stops at Birdingbury station on 2nd May 1959, some six weeks prior to
the cessation of services. The train is being pulled, despite the headlamp.
After the initial reluctance of the LNWR to complete the route in single line
format when it was doubled throughout its route it was to secondary main line
standard. With the exception of when the line was acting as a diversionary
route, such as after Coventry was blitzed in November 1940 and during the
electrification of the main line to Birmingham and the Trent Valley Line, the
line never justified this level of investment.
