LMS Route: Rugby to Wolverhampton
Berkswell and Balsall Common: lnwrberk1555a
Close up of image 'lnwrberk1555' showing Berkswell's level
crossing gates closed and a Morris Minor van using the underbridge. The Morris
Minor van was much favoured in the 1950s by many small businesses as well as
most of the large nationalised companies who were compelled to buy British.
Pedestrians could access the station on both sides of the crossing via small
gates. In the close up seen above the gate to the down platform is on the left
which is lit by electric light, the concrete lamppost being clearly evident.
The remainder of the station was lit by oil lamp which was still the case until
after the line was electrified.
