View looking towards Lichfield showing remnants of the old viaduct and the new bridge being moved in to position

View looking towards Lichfield showing remnants of the old viaduct and the new bridge being moved in to position on Sunday 25th March 1906. The postcard stated under the title 'A Great Engineering Feat', This bridge, weighing 300 tons, was placed in position in 15½ minutes. The caption would seem to indicate that the bridge had been erected on a temporay timber structure in advance of the day (see the timber supports beyond the bridge) and moved after the required viaduct arches had been demolished and the abutments prepared. The postcard therefore seriously exaggerated the time taken to replace the original structure with the new bridge. However it was still quite a feat of engineering given the technology available in 1906.
