Ex-LMS 4-6-0 6P Rebuilt Royal Scot No 6138 'The London Irish Rifleman' on the up Liverpool express service on 17th May 1948. Built by North British Locomotive Company of Glasgow in October 1927, the locomotive was later rebuilt and is seen above with the legend 'British Railways' on its tender but not its new number. Numbered by British Railways as No 46138 the locomotive was to retain the number until it was withdrawn in February 1963 from 12B Upperby shed in Carlisle.
