The line north of Tamworth reverted back to two sets of rails beyond bridge No 82 (carrying Upper Gungate road) seen in the distance. The signal box on the left was originally Tamworth No 2 but when Multi Aspect Signalling (MAS) was introduced it became the only signal box on the closure of Tamworth No 1 box located at the Rugby end of the down platform (behind the camera).
