GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Yardley Wood Platform: gwryw529a
Close up of image 'gwryw529' showing the up platform
building viewed from the Stratford upon Avon side of Yardley Wood station with
the Highfield Road bridge beyond. The area around the station was very quickly
developed in part driven be the ease of commuters being able to travel to
Birmingham via the railway. The large houses on the road indicates that the
initial development was instigated by the professional classes as the windows
in the attic would have been allocated to live-in help. Mike Hitches states
that during the Second World War the station area was bombed resulting in six
nearby shops being demolished by the blast.
