Looking north towards Birmingham along the up platform with the booking office and waiting rooms on the left. The booking office was damaged by fire during 1967. Although the only sign evident is the Gentlemen's sign, it would be very unusual if no such facility existed for the ladies. From the very beginning of railways, ladies were provided with separate facilities with their toilets being accessed from within their waiting room whereas gentlemen had to use the general waiting room and access their facilities from the platform. In larger and major stations, waiting rooms based on class were made available.
