Looking across Tyseley shed from Warwick Road towards the Repair Shop with the two roundhouses accommodating passenger and goods locomotives on the left. In the foreground can be seen the traditional method of storing of coal prior to the days when this was handled mechanically. This labour intensive method of working would have seen the coal unloaded by hand contained within walls built using dry stone walling techniques and coal in-filled between. Rod Liddiard, ex-Tyseley and Old Oak Common fireman, writes, 'This view shows that the coal was laid on top of rails so that wagons could be loaded within the stockpile and not as often seen elsewhere alongside the coal. The view shown is from halfway down Roma Road (West side of the shed). Warwick Road (A41) is behind the shed in the view shown. Roma road built by the GWR to house its staff. Off the bottom of the picture is a small brook which I and countless other spotters over the years would jump across to gain access to the shed.'
