GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Tyseley Station: gwrt1045
Ex-GWR 4-6-0 No 5909 'Newton Hall' passes through Tyseley's
down main platform on a northbound holiday special on 29th August 1959. Built
at Swindon works to Lot 275 in June 1931 No 5909 remained in service until July
1962 when it was withdrawn from Cardiff's Canton shed for scrapping in November
1962 by Birds of Bridgend. Rod Liddiard, ex-Tyseley and Old Oak Common fireman
writes, 'Train 822 was the daily 9:35am Swansea to Birmingham service. A big
cheer would have gone up on the bridge when No 5909 came through as it was a
Llanelly engine and rare at Tyseley. I remember a gleaming No 7021
'Haverfordwest Castle' from Landore come in via the North Warwickshire Line.
Biggest nameplate I'd seen at the time'.
