Photograph of a Morris 14 seater identical to those used on
the Shipston-on-Stour bus services from July 1929 to December 1930 (see 'gwrss601').
The Great Western Railway purchased six Morris 25cwt chassis
on 10th May 1929 and these were registered as passenger vehicles on 27th June
1929. The chassis had an 11 6 wheel-base and the bus was powered by
a Morris Z 2514cc 15.9hp (RAC) 4 cylinder side valve engine which had Magneto
ignition. There was a four speed gearbox connected by a single dry plate clutch
to the driveshaft. The bus bodywork was constructed by John Buckingham to
provide 14 passenger seats accessed by a front entrance.
These were the last buses bought by the Great Western
Railway, as the Company divested its physical bus assets to various Bus
Companies in whom it took a financial interest. Details of all six buses are
given in the table below including the two allocated to Shipston-on-Stour:
