Shirley Station: gwrsh2900

Ex-GWR 4-6-0 No 5085 'Evesham Abbey' approaches Shirley station with the northbound Cornishman on 24th July 1958. A number of services originating at Moor Street or Snow Hill would terminate at Shirley, the commuting traffic being less dense between here and Stratford upon Avon and, as seen, terminating DMUs would be stabled on the up refuge siding until required to make the return journey. Rebuilt from a Star Class locomotive to Lot 317 by Swindon works in July 1939, No 5085 was to remain in service until February 1964 when it was withdrawn from 82B St Philips Marsh shed to be scrapped by R Hayes of Bridgend.
