The OWWR's engine shed, turntable and goods shed and sidings were located in the field to the right of the photographer. The junction was opened in 1873 to connect the East & West Junction Railway (later the SMJ) to then Oxford, Worcester & Wolverhampton Railway's branch line from Honeybourne. Whilst the OW&WR's branch line from Honeybourne was built as a single track line it was laid with double track from approximately where the junction with the E&WJR was made into its terminus. As the E&WJR's own station, to be later known as Stratford Old Town, wasn't opened until June 1875, it meant that for two years the GWR's Stratford on Avon station handled passengers for both companies.
