After nationalisation in 1948 all railways became part of British Railways and the country's routes were divided into divisions based upon geographic considerations. The Great Western was in the main less affected than other railways their routes being predominantly in the West of the country. As part of the corporate branding applied across the country new signage was applied to all stations which was applied to Stratford upon Avon in 1954. As part of this process the new enamel painted sign of maroon background with cream or straw lettering and suspended between concrete posts can be seen on the island platform.
