GWR Route: The North Warwickshire Line
GWR Route: Stratford on Avon to Hatton
Stratford on Avon Station: gwrsa1493
View looking northwards to Wilmecote showing the recently
opened island platforms on the left as two trains are seen standing in the
station. In the down platform is an unidentified 39xx class locomotive running
bunker first on a two-coach train. It was one of twenty locomotives rebuilt
from Dean 2301 class 0-6-0 tender engines between 1907 and 1910. The great
majority were allocated at Tyseley or Wolverhampton in the period prior to
1914, after which they were also allocated to Leamington Spa and Stratford on
Avon sheds. They were a familiar sight until the late 1920s when they were
replaced by the 51xx class of 2-6-2T Prairie locomotives.
