An unidentified ex-GWR 4-6-0 King Class locomotive is seen picking up water at Rowington Troughs circa 1960. Designed for express passenger work the Kings were, with the exception of the GWR's solitary 4-6-2 Pacific 'The Great Bear', the largest locomotives the GWR built. They were named after kings of Great Britain, the first being named after the then reigning monarch, King George V, and then going back through history. Following the death of King George V, the highest-numbered engine was renamed after his successor 'King Edward VII' and following his abdication, the next-highest engine was also renamed after King George VI.
