View of the travelling crane manufactured by Messrs Royce of Manchester which was designed to travel the 400 feet length of the upper level shed. The crane was slung beneath the travelling beam and could move up and down the beam. The beam had a span of 28 feet 4½ inches and could travel the length of the 400 foot long shed at an average speed of 250 feet per minute. The jib of the crane was fixed but because it could rotate in combination with moving up and down the beam meant that its area of operation was much greater than that of a standard overhead crane.
