GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

Ex-GWR 40xx Class 4-6-0 No 4053 'Princess Alexandria' stands at the head of an up express service to London circa 1953. The locomotive was on the up Cambrian Coast Express in the late summer of that year. The 9:30 am Aberystwyth train ran on Saturdays only and also conveyed coaches from Barmouth Junction and from Leamington. Built by Swindon works to Lot 199 in June 1914, No 4053 remained in service until July 1954 when it was withdrawn from 84A Stafford Road shed in Wolverhampton to be scrapped by Swindon. It was survived by class members No 4056, No 4061 and No 4062.
