GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Leamington Spa Station: gwrls2077
An unidentified GWR 4-6-0 Saint Class locomotive stands at the
down platform with an express for Snow Hill circa 1920. On the right, standing
in the bay platform, is a local passenger train probably destined for Stratford
upon Avon. On the left are the lines forming the goods loop which allowed goods
trains to stand until there was a path clear for them to move forward to
Southam and Harbury where the next set of refuge sidings were available. The
passenger footbridge was initially built to cross the GWR lines but was later
extended to cross the LNWR branch lines too. The later LNWR extension is
clearly visible on the left as the method of construction was very different to
that adopted by the GWR.
