GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Hockley Station: gwrhd1646
A four page pamphlet accompanied the introduction of
Railhead Distribution to Birmingham in 1932. As well as emphasising speed and
price, the Great Western Railway offered to provide a complete logistics
service, including; maintaining and storing local stock levels, collecting and
returning empty packaging, providing space to assemble consignments from
different sources before despatch, and an extensive range of clerical services.
Additionally where firms had sufficient trade to fully occupy a road van, the
vehicle could be branded with the firms own name, colour and style. If
desired, arrangements could also be made for the driver to wear the firms
distinctive uniform.
