Roger Carpenter & Chris Turner in their article in the Great Western Railway Journal No 11 - Summer 1994 write, 'from the opening in 1894 the branch service provided morning and evening return through trains to and from Birmingham. This was in addition to the three-coach service provided from Lapworth station via Rowington Junction. In the same article it was noted that a 1902 branch line statement specified that the heaviest passenger train allowed to traverse the route was limited to ten six-wheel coaches. As eight can be viewed in the photograph above with some platform still apparent forward of the locomotive, this limit might be connected to the length of the platform which was 295 feet long.
