Ex-LMS 8F 2-8-0 No 48477, allocated to Bescot shed, passes through Snow Hill on a down goods service to Hockley in 1965. Built as LMS No 8477 by Swindon works in June 1945, No 48477 was to remain in service until September 1966 when it was withdrawn from 2A Tyseley shed to be scrapped by J Cashmores of Great Bridge. Some two hundred and forty-five members of the class were built by the London and North Eastern Railway, Great Western Railway and Southern Railway between 1943 and 1945 for LMS stock, though most were retained on loan by the railways building the locomotives during the war. The Railway Executive Committee had ordered eighty members of the class, numbered LMS No 8400 to No 8479, from the Great Western Railway to be built Swindon works.
