A girder arriving on Pollen-wagons for the high level buildings at the south east end of Snow Hill station

A girder arriving on Pollen-wagons for the high level buildings at the south east end of Snow Hill station. The girders were transported as special loads from the James Bridge Works of E.C.& J.Keay Ltd. in Darlaston to Snow Hill on these special wagons. This end of the girder appears to be supported on a pair of Pollen C (diagram A4) articulated girder wagons which were built in 1905. Each of these four wheel wagons were capable of carrying twenty tons, so two pairs could carry a load up to eighty tons. Each wagon had a turntable in the well area to allow transportation around curves, but the pairing of these wagons would seem to restrict this.
