Acocks Green & South Yardley Station: gwrag1067

Looking towards Birmingham along the up line with Acocks Green's main station building on the left and the up platform waiting room on the right circa 1890s. The number of doors to the main station building seems to indicate that the building hosed a booking office, booking hall, general waiting room and ladies waiting room whilst the up platform only provided basic waiting room facilities. At the far end of the down platform building a gate can be seen which led to Sherbourne Road. Between the two platforms across the tracks is evidence that station staff crossed the line to avoid the long walk from one platform to the other. The two box like structures appear to be steps for accessing the platforms, a feature frequently employed at stations. The track is ballasted by ash and covers the sleepers which was standard 19th century practice although the width of the ballast indicates that the formation was laid down during Broad gauge days.
