GWR Route: Bearley to Alcester

As a wartime measure the single track Great Western Branch to Alcester was closed on 1st January 1917 and the track removed for use elsewhere. The branch was reopened again in 1923 after pressure was applied by local interests as the GWR had no plans to do so. This photograph taken during the closure period, from adjacent to the MR junction, shows the branch track bed and Alcester Road bridge. This red brick arched bridge carried the A435 (formerly Icknield Street) over the railway on a skewed alignment. Only the junction pointwork remains.
