Books you must have in your library

Although we provide a bibliography of the books and magazines used in providing information and content, we are often asked as what specific books would we recommend. The list we have put together reflects personal opinion and is also limited by geography and time. Books in this category must not only feature substantial local content but also focus primarily on the county prior to 1968, the year steam ended on Britain's mainline railway network. Books which may be considered excellent, both in research and content, but only have a small section on the county would therefore be excluded from this section but would listed in our bibliography.

Such an example would be the three relevant volumes of LMS sheds by Hawkins and Reeves (Volumes One - covering the LNWR sheds, Volume Two - covering the Midland sheds and Volume Three covering the SMJ shed at Stratford upon Avon. Other books which are unlikely to be listed in this section are the before and after genre unless their pre-1968 content is not available elsewhere. Many of the books may now be out of print but with the advent of eBay and other online shops copies can still be found.
